GUIDELINES FOR ACCEPTING CONSIGNMENTS

Trading Places accepts furniture and fine decorative accessories that are in "like new" to “excellent” condition, made of quality construction with minimal wear and tear and a style that would be of interest to a large number of customers. Unique and interesting items in excellent condition and current interior design styles are always desired.

Our goal is to personally preview each piece of inventory and select only the highest quality pre-owned home furnishings and accessories. We require that large furniture items be pre-approved prior to being accepted at the store. Accessories may be brought to the store during consignment hours.

To have your items previewed and pre-approved, you may:

  • Email a picture and a description of  your items to info@tradingplacesoh.com
  • Bring a picture to the store to be reviewed by a Consignment Specialist.
  • Call us and make an appointment to visit your home.

Once your items have been pre-approved, you may bring them to the store during Consignment Hours. 

  • Tuesday - Friday:  11:00 - 6:00
  • Saturday:  11:00 - 4:00
  • Sunday:  By appointment

Check in at the Consignment Desk to create an inventory list and pull around to our back door to unload!

CONDITIONS FOR ACCEPTING CONSIGNMENTS:

There will be a quality inspection of your pieces upon arrival at the store prior to final acceptance for consignment. Most importantly, merchandise must be clean and ready to be presented for resale!

We kindly request that you comply with our quality guidelines listed below.

  • Upholstered furniture and Accessories
    • Age:  5 years or newer is preferred, however, more mature pieces in excellent condition will be eligible for consideration and acceptance.
    • Should be vacuumed on top of and under cushions
    • Free of rips, stains, tears or other visible damage
    • Free from discoloration from sunlight or inconsistency of fabric
    • Free of pet hair or odor
    • Smoke free / Odor free
    • Cushions should have little to no indication of sagging or lack of shape.
    • Stable construction            

 

  • Case Goods (Tables, Bookcases, Bedroom furniture, etc...)
    • Age:  10 years or newer is preferred, however, more mature pieces in excellent condition will be eligible for consideration and acceptance.
    • Solid wood construction preferred; veneer and plywood construction will be accepted on a case by case basis.
    • Dust and cob web free.
    • Finish and paint on primary solid surfaces should be consistent.
    • Free of watermarks and discoloration.
    • No (or minor) scratches, chips or other noticeable flaws.
    • No broken or missing hardware pieces.  Drawers and doors must operate properly.  
    • Hardware for items that are not pre-assembled must be in a plastic sealed bag and labeled appropriately.
    • Legs and frame must be sturdy

CONSIGNMENT PERIOD

  • Trading Places will price each piece of merchandise based on current market factors, brand name, condition and style of the piece as well as our experience as to what sells well within our customer base. 
  • Items will be consigned and displayed in our showroom for ninety (90) days.  Inventory will go through a series of progressive markdowns during this time frame.  After (30) days, items will be reduced by 20% off of the original sales price and after (60) days, there will be an additional markdown of 20%.  
  • Once your item is sold, you will receive 50% of the final selling price.
  • Upon the expiration of the consignment period any unsold items may be reclaimed within 3 days or arrangements can be made to donate the items to a local furniture banc.  Trading Places retains the right to sell those items until they are removed by the consignor or his designated representative.  Items left in the shop past the retrieval period will become the property of Trading Places.  Trading Places reserves the right to donate items to a local charity or offer additional markdowns or sales at our discretion.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • We can assist you with making pickup arrangements to transport items to the store.  There is a reasonable fee for this based on your location and number of items that need to be picked up.  
  • Due to insurance restrictions, we are not able to assist in loading or unloading merchandise from your vehicle.  Please bring your own muscles and packaging materials!
  • There is a one-time registration fee of $15 to establish a new account.   This will be deducted from the open account balance after your items are sold.
